There are days when I know the shot before I see it. Not because I'm watching the ball. Because I'm listening.

A flushed seven iron has a sound that's hard to describe. Clean without being loud. After enough years, your ears become as useful as your eyes.

I've wondered if people are like that too. Not the words they choose — the way they carry them. You can hear joy. You can hear exhaustion. You can hear someone trying very hard to convince themselves they're okay. We spend so much time listening to what people say that we forget to hear how they're saying it.
